The train station at historic Ballarat

I had met up with VT member Kate-Me and her husband Paul in Melbourne where we visited a concert by Kitto. Afterwards they took me to their home in Creswick near Ballarat, where they let me stay in their home for a couple of nights and also took me out camping along the Great Ocean Road. Thanks very very much for all of this I will never forget the days!

Ballarat is an old goldmining town. It used to be one of the richest city in Australia. You can still see this by all the old buildings in the city. It's nice to walk around in the city and admire all these buildings. A highlight is Sovereign Hill, a rebuilt gold mining town just outside of town where you can pan your own gold with a bit of luck.

Also visit Lake Wendouree, where you can see heaps of black swans, bring along some bread and you have found many friends, although you have to feed them quickly since they are very demanding.

There is also a very nice wildlife park in Ballarat where you can ineract with a lot of animals. Take a look at the koala's, pet the kangaroos and the emu's. And see for yourself the quolls, Tasmanian Devils and loads of other native Australian 'inhabitants'.

Directions: About an hour and a half northwest of Melbourne.
