Uppsala Castle, Uppsala: 14 reviews and 30 photos
Gustavus Wasa died in 1560. His son Erik XIV has a macabre historical connection to Uppsala Castle, since it was here that he executed three members of the Sture family in 1567 in connection with a power struggle between the king and the aristocracy. But Erik and above all his brother Johan III did a great deal to beautify the castle—after all, Uppsala was the coronation site of the house of Wasa. The 1580s and 1590s were important periods in the history of the construction of the castle, with many architects being called in from abroad.
