"South African National Gallery" National Gallery Tip by Jenniflower

National Gallery, Cape Town: 3 reviews and 2 photos

This gallery is undergoing a very interesting transition. Only a selection of the Permanent Collection is on display at any given moment.

They are re-writing South African history and art history. As a part of their campaign to make the gallery accessible to all, projects are designed to encourage community involvement and participation.

Their exhibition and education programmes are aimed at debunking cultural biases regarding attitudes and approaches to art, especially in the light of South Africa's political transition in current years.

So watch this space! Current exhibitions are very informative and there is some truly spectacular artwork, and other artwork, that has never been given this platform before, has it now :) Enjoy!

The gallery shop is lovely, but expensice (tourist prices) so watch out. Their coffee shop is very nice albeit small.
