The Potala Palace is an intriguing site to behold
by Gage17

The most impressive structure in Tibet is the Potala Palace. While in Lhasa, I would visit it every day just to gaze upon its genius and marvel at its grandeur... but I never did go inside; the entry fee was something exorbitant like Y100, and I was quite content with the free view from the outside.

Construction on the current palace began in the 17th century, but the Dalai Lama died during the building, so his death was hidden from the worker serfs for years until the 13 stories were completed. It has over a thousand rooms and is one of the architectural wonders of the world.
