The shop is an utmost interesting room to visit.
The entrance used to be in the Heiligengeeststraat (Holy Spirit Street).
Inside you find a lot of artefacts that tells you how life was in 15th and 16th century Antwerp.
In the upper corner at the left you see a little balance machine. This was used to weight the money coins that used to be in gold or silver. Money didn?t have a symbolic value as it is now, but was worth really their weight in silver and gold.
However people would scratch some of it off the coin and if a lot did this to the same coin, soon its weight would be too small. So that is what the balance was for, to check on this.
Upper right corner you see a frame that enlists all the forbidden and banned literature and books during the Spanish catholic occupation.
Low left corner you see the shop desk, out of sight is even a book press. At the low right corner you have a view in the accountancy room, a room attached to the shop.
