Nice place, shame about the sandflies!

Milford sound is spectacular. Luckily we were there when the weather was gorgeous as I don't think it would have been as good in the rain.

There's not much else there except the boat terminal(unless you are heading off to hike) , but the boat is the best place to see it.

You glide past towering cliffs, abundant vegetation and lovely tree ferns, superb waterfalls and a bit of wildlife in the seagulls and a few prancing seals.

The only downside are the sandflies which are ok once you get on the boat. Take some insect repellant to keep them away.

Another tip, if you are doing a day trip stay at Te Anua the night before not Queenstown. Milford sound is a 2 and a half hour drive from Queenstown so if you don't want to get up at the crack of dawn, drive down to Te Anau the afternoon before - its a nice drive in itself and Milford sound is about a half hour away.
