  Casanova, writing his memoirs
by globetrott

In the castle of Duchcov / Dux you may see the place, where Casanova spent the 13 last years of his life and is buried at an unknown place close to the church.
Count Waldstein used to invite musicians, composers and other important people like Chopin,Bach,Beethoven,Haydn,Mozart,Goethe and the tzars Alexander I and Nikolaus I.
Casanova came to Duchkov in 1785, and he became a good friend of count Waldstejn.
Casanova was 60 years old at that time and he had plenty of troubles with his affairs at many places, so he was happy to get some sort of a "asylum" in Duchkov
Organizing a library was a bit different at that time, when bookshops were not found in any small town.
Casanova had a lot of time to write his memoirs "Histoire de ma vie"
Today you may visit the livingrooms of Casanova, the chair, where he died and at the end of the guided tour you will be able to take a look into the library and see a wax-sculpture of Casanova...
