TUA KOIN: "The Only Eco-Village Around" Top 5 Page for this destination East Timor Hotel Tip by bkoon
East Timor Hotels: 7 reviews and 12 photos
On Atauro Island, the village of Tua Koin is seen by many as a model for the future of the tourism industry in Timor, and its growing success is just one example of how sustainability is being re-integrated into the East Timorese way of life.
Tua Koin though, was specifically built for tourists. Visitors stay in thatched huts right beside a white, sandy beach, and there’s an open communal dining room where the local people cook meals for their guests.
Unique Qualities: Is an eco-village. Everything is so environmentally friendly.
(I have more info on the eco-village in the section under activities.)
Address: Atauro Island, Timor-Leste
