House of Blackheads, Riga: 42 reviews and 95 photos
In my opinion House of Blackheads is one of the famous and gorgeous buildings in Old City. Although it looks quite new, it was rebuilt in honour of Rīga's anniversary which was in 2001.
The history of the building dates back to the beginning of the 14th century when it was built. And later it becomes Blackheads' property. The Blackheads' organization consisted of unmarried foreign merchants who mostly came from Germany and the organizations' symbol and patron was black moor named Saint Mauritius. Therefore such name - Blackhead. The black moor is also seen inside and on the facade of building. In that times the building was also popular with art treasures which were there.
During WW II the House of Blackheads was destroyed.
