  NP Timanfaya
by Bernd_L

Between 1730 and 1736 frequent volcanic eruptions transformed the formerly fertile region of Timanfaya into an area that nowadays looks like a scene from outer space.

Although the whole island is of volcanic origin this part has a special charm because vegetation did not find its way back and therefore you can feel like standing on the moon.

It's not surprising that Lanzarote often is choosen by film crews as a location for science fiction films.

Only one road leads into the park. Once inside you do a round trip with a bus and see some impressive craters, lava formations and demonstrations of the volcanic activity near the parks restaurant.

Directions: South-western part of Lanzarote. You'll find the road into the park halfway on the highway between the villages Yaiza and Tinajo
