Montana has many ghost towns but if you are in the area of crystal park and Elkhorn hot springs, another fun thing to do is visit the town of Coolidge (named after Calvin).
On one side of the stream is the giant Elkorn silver mine, still standing but unaccessable, probably because it would be very dangerous to wander around in or near it. It supposedly cost $1,000,000 to build even then. On the side of the stream you walk into town (about a mile from the parking area) stands what is left of a turn of the century town which had a population of around 500. Here you are free to wander through old houses and stores at your own risk. As some are laying in piles on the ground its easy to see why you need to be cautious.
Only open to cars in the summer but snowmobiles are allowed in winter months.
