Cobalt (now closed): "Our old port hangout" Barroco Restaurant Tip by Carmanah
Barroco Restaurant, Montreal: 1 reviews and 0 photos
Located in Old Montreal on rue Saint Paul, Cobalt was our hangout in Montreal because friends of ours own it and work there. It's a very intimate and hip restaurant serving French-influenced cuisine. Though in a historic building, it feels very hip and contemporary. They also have live music (mostly jazz) in the evenings.
Unfortunately, it has since closed.
Favorite Dish: The lychee martinis were delicious... topped off with dried cranberries... I think I drank 2 or 3 of these!!
For dinner I had their smoked salmon on bagels. At first I wasn't sure if I was cheating, as smoked salmon is such a Vancouver thing, but I was reminded by Josh that this is Montreal - home to the smoked salmon w/cream cheese on bagels. If there's anywhere to have it, this is the place! So I obliged, and I'm so glad that I did! Large capers and slices of red onion on local Montreal bagels... tons of cream cheese and delicious smoked salmon. It was served with mesculin greens in a balsamic vinaigrette. I'd definitely order it again!
