"Nice place, somewhat out of the way" Riviera Suites Backwater Kochi Tip by mdchachi

We were in town for a wedding and most guests stayed here due to its size and facilities and because the reception was held here. The hotel is more like short-term apartments than a typical hotel. Each unit had separate bedrooms w/ ensuite bathrooms, living/dining and a kitchen. The building is taller than most anything around it, hence there is a good view of the area. It is not very close to the center of town (15 min. rickshaw ride) but hotel staff will help with taxi arrangements, ayurvedic spa recommendations, etc. There is also local bus service (if you can figure it out) as well as the ubiquitious auto-rickshaws a short walk up the road. In-house restaurant was decent. A single computer was available for Internet access near the lobby.
Bathrooms were not luxurious but pretty good. Showers were enclosed within a curtain so the whole bathroom doesn't get wet like in some Indian hotels. Hot water was produced in those individual electric hot water heaters. The heater was big enough and lasted long enough for a decent shower. Elevators were surprisingly slow considering how new the building is.

Unique Qualities: Tall building, good view of the "backwaters". Pool was clean and well kept. Accommodating, professional staff.
