When I was there (1992) there was a fire alarm every morning around 5 or six so everyone had to go out. I was freezing and really pissed off after a few nights ;-) (well we got used to it somehow and after two nights we didn't bother anymore --- good that there was no fire ;).

Well..maybe they have fixed it by now - though I heard of other people who had the same problem!
I didn't like Inverness much, anyway. You should go north from there as soon as you can!

Unique Suggestions: Dress up warmly before you go out and stand in front of the hostel for a while.

Fun Alternatives: I bet there is B&Bs in Inverness where the firealarm is working properly ;-)
