The 'Tapgol Park' was built as the first modernized park in Korea.in 1897 by J.M. Brown,he was a British counselor to the Dehanjeguk (Empire). The site was a Originally a Buddhist temple named 'Heungboksa' in the Goryeo era and 'Wongaksa' in the Joseon Dynasty.
there are valuable historic relics, including Wongaksabi, Wongaksaji Sipcheung Seoktap, Palgakjeong, 3.1 Independence Movement Memorial Monument and a statue of Euiam (Son, Byeong-hui) and a monument of Manhae (Han, Yong-un).
