TAVERNS
There are 22 restaurants in area of Colonial Williamsburg of which the oldest, the most known and famous are four taverns:
1. King's Arms Tavern (chop house),
2. Shields Tavern (colonial food),
3. Chowning's Tavern (local barbecue - the least expensive),
4. Christiana Campbell's Tavern - seafood tavern which advertises as a favourite restaurant of George Washington.
Excuse me, this is tip for my next trip. I didn't eat in Williamsburg (reservation mostly required), I passed by 3 of the above taverns located along the main avenue (Duke of Gloucester Street): 1 and 2 are close to the Capitol, 3 - closer to the Bruton Church. 4 is hidden east of the Capitol.
RESERVATION HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
In all taverns except Chowning's Tavern reservation 1 or even 2 days ahead is highly recommended for dinners served from 5.00 pm. Call free 1-800-TAVERNS or +1 (757) 229-2141.

KING'S ARMS TAVERN
This restaurant looks very elegant and upclass both from the outside (on my picture) and especially inside. No wonder, it was known as the restaurant where the elite meet and eat. Currently its visitors wear casual clothes. It's a smoke and... cell phone free area.
Favorite Dish: For dinner I would order Colonial Game Pye (Braised Venison, Rabbit, Duck, Vegetables and Bacon Lardons in a Port Wine Sauce - Stone Fruit Cranberry Conserve - sounds yummy, hmm... $26.95 + tax and tip :-(. Add peanut soupe (garnished with roasted peanuts) for $3.50 :-). All dinners are served with appropriate vegetables, a selection of relishes, Sally Lunn bread and corn muffins.
