Government House, Perth: 3 reviews and 8 photos

This is the second Government House built in Perth and it is quite impressive within the setting of the English style gardens. The design as been described as ‘Jacobean Mansion Revival’ with its arches and turrets and the building was completed in 1864 after 5 years of construction. This is one of Perth early buildings which was built by convict labour. The first Government House was a hut which was built in 1834 for Governor Stirling close to the present site. Often when it rained, the Governor would use an umbrella while answering his official correspondence. That building was torn down during the 1880’s. Government House is the official residence of the Governor of Western Australia.
