There are monumental and impressive gardens with a canal and a maze behind (north of) the Governor's Palace. They were built and financed by Governor Alexander Spotswood who arrived to Williamsburg in 1710. That time the palace gardens were the most elegant and extravagant in the colonial America.

I visited only part of the gardens but I can agree that they look pretty altough they must look even more beautiful in spring when many flowers bloom.

Directions: From the Visitor Center take any bus and get off on the first bus stop, follow the direction signs to the Governor's Palace.
