  Cathedral Rock

Favorite thing: What I noticed most while in Sedona is how the erosion-sculpted rocks seemed to change color and essence hourly. Sometimes gray and eerie; at other times such as mid-morning, they appear clear violet; later in the day, they take on vivid reds and oranges. After sunset, these same rocks turn the color they really are....rust.

Fondest memory: I found the Vortex Phenomenonmost interesting, if not controversial.

Most experts feel that the geographical vortexes around Sedona come in two forms:

"upflow, where energy bursts out of the earth (male) and inflow, where energy goes into the earth(female). Upflow vortexes are mountain or mesa tops; inflow vortexes are associated with depressions and canyons." Upflow=energizing; inflow=introspection.

All the Sedona vortexes (power points) are easy to find.

Bell Rock (the bell-shaped monolith off State Rt. 179, five and a half miles south of the "Y" junction with State Route 89A. This is diificult to climb; if not experienced, don't try it.

Airport Mesa is easy because there is little or no climbing. Drive a little over a mile on State 89A west of the "Y" junction and turn south on airport Road.

Cathedral Rock is a ridge stretched between two peaks with awesome views. Go about 3 1/2 miles south on St. Rt. 179 from the Sedona "Y" and turn right on "Back-o-Beyond," & drive 0.7 mile to trailhead parking.

Boynton CanyonTake Dry Creek Rd 2.9 miles north from St. Rt. 89A in west Sedona and turn left on Boynton Pass Rd. Then drive for 1.6 miles to trailhead parking.

I tried to "pick up" the spiritual epiphany, but personally did not feel insight or energy. I wish I had. But, I did feel the power of Nature's Beauty.
