The Hatadage and Atadage are two temples that look very similar in their name, appearance, and use. Both, in fact, were used as a shrine to house the sacred toth of the Lord Buddha (yes, the same tooth that's now at the temple in Kandy).
The Atadage, in fact, was the first Tooth Temple in Sri Lanka, and it was built by King Vijayabahu in the 11th century. The Hatadage was built for the same purpose, for no apparent or logical reason. Inside both temples there are some interesting statues to visit - the best one being the 3 metres high statue of the Lord Buddha in the Atadage
