"On My Way To The Most Famous Church In The World.." Notre Dame de Paris Tip by Krystynn

Notre Dame de Paris, Paris: 652 reviews and 1,336 photos

Ah, here I am at last... just outside the NOTRE DAME BASILICA here on Christmas Eve in Paris!!

This gothic masterpiece was begun sometime in the 1100s by Bishop Maurice de Sully and construction was only finally completed almost 200 years later.

During the French Revolution, the statues of the kings on the facade were totally detroyed by anti-royalists (oh, they are now housed inside Musee de Cluny situated at the Latin Quarter). Anyhow, as all we know, Notre Dame has been restored many, many times since the early 19th century... and today, it has been kept closely inline to the original plan by Bishop Sully. Phew!!

O.K., enough said. Now c'mon and follow me inside.
