You have to see the dancing. This is in Puno during carnaval, but keep your eyes open and travel plans flexible. The groups in Puno are from dance clubs. The oldest club (99 years old in 2004) insisted I join in dance with them in the street, and then go with them to their clubhouse for the after parade party past 3 am. There were at least four generations of family represented. Some of the older folks said they had to retire from the parade dancing, but they seemed to dance all night at the party. I am not a dancer, and felt a little embarassed dancing before the party, but it did not seem to matter to me once we got to the party.
