The theatre held 5,000 people and was built in the 4th century BC. It has 35 rows of stone benches and was later restored by the Romans. Theatrical and musical performances were held there during the festivals that took place in Delphi and during the Pythian games every 4 years.

The theatre is said to be acoustically perfect. If you were to drop a coin from the center of the orchestra, you would be able to hear it from the last row.
