  A church in Campiello.

We were also impressed by Evgeniou Street with its belfry of the Roman Catholic Church of the Annunciation (14 century), the Town Hall which is the most elegant of the Venetians buildings (1691) and the beautiful building of the Bank of Greece (17th century) facing the square. Also don't forget the northern end of Capodistria Street, where you'll find the Capodistria Mansion, and excellent example of neo-classical architecture. It was built in 1835 by the Corfiot architect John Chronis and is considered one of the most beautiful buildings in Greece. Here John Capodistrias, the first president of Greece, was born. Finally we followed the road which took us to the Old Harbour and the New Fortress. Along this road the narrow lanes (cantounia) lead us to the oldest houses and many of the historic churches in Campiello.

Whether you are looking for an extravagant evening out or just wish to browse the multitude of shops in the narrow cobbled streets, Campiello has it all. At night it is Cosmopolitan - spend an evening in one of the many bars or café's watching the world go by.

Address: Campiello - The Old Town
Directions: Right at the city centre.
