There is a statue of Joaquim António de Aguiar in the main plaza (Largo da Portagem) - He was a Portuguese politician in the late 1700s and lived for more than 90 years. As a prominent figure of the University of Coimbra and the city as well, it's no question that there is a statue in his memory at the entrance to the city center.
