Favorite thing: Even the most ordinary birds doing the most ordinary things are a source of awe when you're in the Galapagos.
For example, the pelicans in the Galapagos are the same old ordinary brown pelicans you can find in many places (although it is true that the Galapagos Pelican is considered an endemic subspecies, but still...). In spite of this I spent long periods watching them skim gracefully over the shallow water of a bay, scanning for fish, and then quite awkwardly plunging into the water to scoop up a meal.
I guess the atmosphere of the place just gets you in the mood to quietly observe anything that moves!
Here's one of my shots of a pelican in flight.
