I was working in Pointe Noire and have been there for 2months.It is a very expensive place and during my stay I got robbed by soldiers.Mainly everything there is very expensive and many things are a fake,copies.(cigarettes,wooden masks etc.)Be careful on weekends,soldiers in black uniform are out and force you to give them money or they even take your money.Don`t go out alone.Malaria is a hughe problem there.Most of the hotels are far too expensive for what they offer.There is not much to see in Pointe Noire beside the beach(water is sometimes polluted by the oil platforms close to the beach).Be careful by taking fotos!It is possible to take fotos but most of the time you have to pay for it.It helps if you speak French.Expect that you have to give money by arriving and leaving Pointe Noire(at the airport:-)I have had a very beautiful experience by visiting a catholic mess,wonderful atmosphere and lovely music.At my hotel there have been also some weddings and the music was great.Anyhow,at the end I have been happy to leave Point Noire

Pros:haven`t found much...the livemusic was good
Cons:Malaria,thiefs,very expensive place
In a nutshell:if you haven`t seen this place you don`t miss anything

This sounds like a dangerous place - healthwise and otherwise! Glad that you had a good experience at the church though.
