The Walled City

Well this page will be biased as Chester is my home town and I love it.
As a city and a tourist destination Chester has it all. Extensive Roman remains, medieval city walls, tudor "rows", a reformation cathedral, a racecource actually in the city, museums, a river for boating and pleasant walks and the best shopping centre in the whole of the north west of England. Finding somewhere to stay can be a problem though especially in the summer months when the city is teeming with visitors. Chester is a very compact city however and you can easily explore it all in a couple of days. But don't take my word for it , come and see for yourself!

Something for everyone

The city works really hard to attract its tourists and there are generally events happening all year round. My father used to organise the annual Chester Festival of Transport that was staged to coincide with the Mayor's show so I know how much effort goes into staging big events for the city.

Shop til you drop!

Chester has an amazing number of shops for its size. It has the first purpose build shopping arcade in England that is a very elegant example of what planners can do when they put their minds to it. We also have the Tudor "Rows" - sort of double decker streets with shops that sit above shops and have covered walkways that run above street level. These Rows are unique to Chester and worth the visit alone. All this means that Chester is jam packed with shops and is an ideal place to do your Christmas shopping if you can stand the crowds.

Lovely museum in Chester! Sadly these wonderful museums get lost by travelers. The wall looks most inviting to explore! Nice page!
