"Ludlow" Ludlow by Andrew_W_K
Ludlow Travel Guide: 60 reviews and 77 photos
When the BBC decided to serialise Tom Sharpe's Blot on the Landscape they chose Ludlow. A fine Shropshire market town with an impressive Norman castle overlooking a river, a great selection of junk shops and antique shops and one of the finest half timbered buildings in England.
The Feathers hotel dates from the early 17th century and has been an Inn or hotel for most of its life.
Although the church dates from Norman times the one we see today is as a result of rebuilding in the 15th century in the English perpendicular style. I read somewhere that the church is one of the largest parish churches in England.
A Norman castle built to keep out the troublesome Welsh as one in a chain of castles all along the English/Welsh border. The castle is a formidable sight today. It occupies an area of high ground above the river almost in the centre of town. Ludlow castle has a rich and interesting history from the Mortimer family who made 2 failed attempts to seize the English throne in the 14th and 15th centuries before Edward son of Richard Plantagenet (a decendent of the Mortimer family) won the war of the roses to claim the English crown.

It was sadly after leaving Much Wenlock and the area that I realised how excellent Ludlow is and havent had a chance to get back - nice picx thx giving good reason why I should keep this up high on my UK wishlist!
Nice place with so much history! When will I pay a visit to the good old England I wonder?...
