I'm referring to the cycle race of course not the place. Although the name Hell of the North was used to describe the area after the first world war when there wasn't a tree of a house left standing. The term is nowadays applied to the race and for good reason. it is one of hardest one day classics on the calendar with much of it run on the "pave" or cobbled roads of northern France. If you are interested in sport then you should go and take a look at this gruelling event. Its a terrific atmosphere as well as half of Belgium descend on the area and claim it for themselves. |
