My US Roadtrip- One of Favorite Travel Adventures!

by RheaM - last update: Feb 22, 2008

We started our journey in California...

My US Roadtrip- Eight family vacations in 10 days!

In May of 2007 I embarked on a US cross country journey with my husband and friends. It was one the best experiences of my life! We started in California and ended in Pennsylvania, we managed to stop at many popular and not so popular destinations along the way. These are some of my favorite stops from the trip.
Thr Group at the Grand Canyon!

The Grand Canyon- Truly Amazing!

The Grand Canyon truly is one the Natural Wonders of the World. The scenery is spectacular, the air is fresh, and the experience is like no other. We had an amazing time on our Sunset Jeep Tour. The sunset was a combinations of vivid reds and oranges that painted the sky. Overall an amazing experience!
The Painted Desert- So Beautiful!

The Painted Desert

On our journey from Arizona to New Mexico we had no plan, no deadline, not even a hotel reservation. We had a AAA gudiebook which Alex was given to select a hotel and restaurant. We asked Alex to keep an eye out for any points of interest. Well he found one, a biggie. The Petrified National Forest was right of I-40 in Arizona. None of us knew what to expect, we just knew that we wanted to see it! Along the way we saw a roadsign for "Meteor Crater" they had about a hundred billboards and we were intrigued. Needless to say both experieneces were amazing. The Petrified Forest ended in the Painted Desert which was breathtaking and a great way to end our 28 mile detour. We were lucky to "stumble" across these natural treasures!
Absorbing some Memphis Culture

I love Memphis!!

After an incredibly boring drive from Arkansas, we arrived in Memphis, Tennesee. Memphis is simply awesome. Beale Street is a combination of Santa Monica, Ca and Mardi Gras! The street was blocked off and packed. There were an endless choice of bars, clubs, restaurants and cafes to choose from. We ended up at Rum Boogie Cafe and had front row seat to a great rock/blues band. We felt so lucky to be experiencing it all. The band, the food, and the atmosphere were all very "Memphis". Another amazing night for us all. Memphis was an experience like no other

DC- One of my favorite places on Earth!

We left Kingsport, TN, (um, how is it so easy to get lost in a town 5 square miles!?) and arrived in beautiful Washington, DC. The weather was absolutely perfect, we arrived at around 7pm and the crowds weren't too bad. The monuments were breathtaking. After seeing the amazing monuments, we wandered the city aimlessly taking in the political culture to its fullest for two days. There were so many official and unofficial tributes to fallen soldiers. Needless to say it was a moving experience for all of us
