It is fun and relaxing taking a break and sit on top of a canyon watching birds. At some point we got to see an eagle flying around.
Just outside the city centre it is very pleasing to walk by the sea. It is not very crowded, some people walk, some run or skate others sit reading in peace and all this everyday until pastmidnight when there is still nice romantic light around.
Gullfoss, in south-central Iceland, is an immense and stunning two-tiered waterfall plunging more than 30 meters into a long, narrow canyon. On sunny days, rainbows refracting in the spray of the falls bend in every direction. So we went and yes, as everybody says it is a very beautiful and majestic waterfall. Too bad I didn`t enjoy it as when we reached the site it was pouring down and we could hardly see the path.
The Botanical gardens, founded in 1912, include about 2.000 species from several countries, as well as the entire array of the Icelandic flora.
Directions: go first to the top part of the city, where the gardens are situated, then it is easier to go down the streets till the city centre.
Boat trips, like the one organized to watch puffins, were very funny and interesting. At some point, the people from the boat threw in the water a large net and brought it back full of sea shells and crabs. They started cleaning the shells and serve fresh sea food to whoever was interested. Mussels and snails and shells. I was naturally on first line!
The waterfall Goðafoss is situated close to the ring road between Mývatn and Akureyrí. The fall is twelve metres high and is counting to the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland. History tells us that in the year 1000 the lawspeaker of Althing, Þorgeir, decided that Icelanders should adopt the Christian faith. When he came back from Thingvellir to the north he threw his statues of the pagan gods into the waterfall. Since then, the falls were called Goðafoss (Waterfall of the gods).
The Kjölur route is one of the most interesting and most varied highland-crossings. Since all rivers are bridged, travelling is no more difficult on this road. The southern part of the distance is more interesting than the northern, but it is a bit more difficult to drive.
It is just a few km out of the city centre of Akureyri and it is a lovely shop that sells Christmas decoration from Iceland and all over the world, as well candy and other items such as table-clothes and so on.
The Blue Lagoon is a geothermal pool/health spa/gnarly photo opportunity 45 minutes outside of Reykjavik.
Here, mineral-rich hot water from far beneath the earth forms the spectacular man-made lagoon, where a luxurious health spa has been developed in the rugged lava landscape.
This day was one of our best days in Iceland. We didn`t find it really crowded, so we enjoyed really well the luxury of bathing in hot water (38degrees around) and having sauna and water massages.
Really really experience not to miss!
Tips: they give you towels and bath suit if you do not have at a cheap price and before getting into the lagoon you have to take a shower.
Directions: just a few minutes from the International Airport at KeflavikThe Blue Lagoon is accessible by bus from Reykjavik, and is also included on many organised bus tours.

If you travel in this area you realize that Icelandic nature holds many colors. Some parts of the Myvatn area have a moonshape character In this area the appollo 11 crew of NASA made training missions in the late 60' s. Myvatn is one of the most active vulcanic regions of the world, so here you find many hot springs, pools of boiling mud filled with sulpher deposits. Overheated steam is coming out of the ground at many places. Myvatn honours it's name ( 'midge lake' ) these midges are everywhere and can be very annoying just like the swarms of tourists who come every year.
