Mammoth Mountain - My home away from home! :)

by bruingirl - last update: Jan 4, 2006

Mammoth in the winter

A cold, winter day.
****Snow update (Jan. 2006): Happy new year! Mammoth just got 125" of FRESH POWDER!!! Can you believe it??? Mammoth Mtn has more snow than ANY OTHER resort in N. America!****

A haven for both skiers and snowboarders alike. This mountain resort in the eastern part of the Sierra Nevadas of California is still a fairly "local" mountain for Californians. Only about a 4 hour car drive from Southern California, Mammoth provides a top tier ski resort experience with its diversified levels of runs and excellent snow conditions! When the snow has melted, there is still a myriad of things to do, ranging from mountain biking to golfing and hiking. Mammoth Mountain has been bought by Intrawest in the past couple of years. Intrawest is a mega-resort company that is trying to turn Mammoth into a Vail-like destination! Personally, I am all about the sleepy town that Mammoth used to be. Others are glad that there are more restaurants and shops now. Either way, it is still the best place to go and spend the weekend! It is all about Mammoth Mountain for all the latest info.

Mammoth in the summer

All the snow melts away to glorious blue skies and picturesque mountains that frame endless miles of valleys and meadows. I love this mountain! :)

Dusk in Mammoth....

There's nothing like a sunset over the ocean, but a sunset in Mammoth is a whole different type of spectacular! Imagine seeing the skies turn a deep red and hearing nothing but a few birds here and there....the cool summer evening breeze and the smell of the BBQ....

Pros:"The serene beauty of the mountains, the lakes, and all that is natural!"
Cons:"They are expanding the airport and trying to turn it into L.A. on the mountain! :("
In A Nutshell:"An awesome weekend getaway!"

Oh, someone else who loves the trails of the Sierras! You should hike Desolation in the south of Tahoe!! I hope your work will change to let you get out and play more!
