Mohonk Mountain House was built back when city dwellers escaped to the mountains for vacation, hiked, swam in the lake, boated, and relaxed on the wide porches. Over the last hundred and twenty-five years, the resort has seen many famous guests and has retained it's victorian character and charm. While many mountain resorts have declined, this family owned and operated hotel has expanded and remained well run and a great vacation destination.
With meals included in the accomodation price, one is offered continental breakfast, a full breakfast buffet, a lunch buffet, and either dining in the formal dining room or dinner buffet. If a quiet dinner is what you desire, opt for the ala carte formal dining room. Wait staff are friendly and efficient. Don't miss afternoon tea and cookies . Special rate offers vary some meal options but not having to plan when or where to eat is one part of vacation I enjoy.
If you are looking for glitz, art-deco, or modern, look elsewhere. If you want fireplaces blazing in the winter, comfortable arm chairs to read, or sitting on the porch rockers overlooking the lake or mountain in the summer; cross country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating in a covered pavilion, swimming in a heated pool in the winter - then you won't be disappointed. A national historical landmark - it's a classic.
- Pros:A step back in time
- Cons:parents who let their kids run unsupervised
- In a nutshell:A resort for all seasons
