This was our first trip to Africa and like most developing countries people try to make the most of any oppotunity. So as you arrive at the airport you are asked to pay the entrance fee by putting £10 in a black bin liner. You will then be helped with your bags to the coach for a small fee, plus the airport has its own set of disabled beggers. All in all it will cost you £15 to get through the airport. I believe holiday companies are going to include the tourist tax in the holiday price to stop this abuse.
The trip from the airport to the hotel gives you your first insight into the local life, it all looks a bit dirty. However see your first group of school children dressed in perfect white shirts and big bright smiles and you will know why they say
