Blossom next to path was so sweet! - Tossa

Blossom next to path was so sweet!

Fonda Lluna: OK but could do better!

We found the hostal on the internet, and as it was one of the few places with a functioning website we booked 2 nights. The best two things about the hostal is that it is in a quiet, pedestrianised area of the old town and it has a large roof terrace with amazing views. Bed sheets were clean however my boyfriend's bedcover had a dirty stain on it and the window faced a huge white wall (I didn't mind as it was therefore quiet and private). The bathroom was fine except for my bugbear...no soap! A simple breakfast is included in the price (8 to 10.30) and there is free internet access in the lobby. There seemed to be a lot of staff, or people milling about in the lobby and therefore I didn't feel security was that good as they couldn't keep track of everyone entering the building. Some of the staff were friendly and the couple living there were grumpy!

Fonda Codolar: Simple, traditional hostal

We only stayed here for one night and thought it was good value as breakfast was included. The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful and many guests (Spanish and foreign) return year after year...we gleaned this from eavesdropping to the conversation at breakfast!. Our room was a 2nd floor ensuite double with a view of the beach from the shuttered window. Three or four rooms open out onto roof terraces but ours was probably one of the best. The place is clean and the bathrooms are quite modern so we chose to think of it as quaint! In truth the place could do with modernisation and a few extras such as bedside lamps and soap! The place is a rabbit warren so not suitable for elderly or kids under 10.

Unique Qualities: The elderly owner has had the hostal for a long time and is utterly charming! The place doesn't have a website as she doesn't have a clue about computers and you feel things havent changed there for at least 20 years (except the modernisation of the bathrooms). Much more could be done with room layouts and the roof terrace but on the other hand that would send prices shooting up!
