"Largest city on the Great Ocean Road" Warrnambool by Jarra

Warrnambool Travel Guide: 83 reviews and 138 photos

Like most of the towns along coast, Warrnambool was originally settled as a humble whaling and sealing station. Nowadays Warrnambool is a major industrial and commercial centre. Despite its growth, Warnambool maintains a relaxed seaside feel. The city centre has some historic buildings, and many of the main streets are lined with Norfolk Island pines and New Zealand Christmas trees. The town is a popular family summer resort, with some good sheltered swimming beaches as well as open surf beaches.
