It was July, and we had just arrived in Dover, on quite a cold, windy and wet morning.

Mmm! Was this a sign of the weather in England, it was meant to be Summer!
Well, as it happened, the weather did improve.

Now, will you join me on our tour of the English countryside, seeing the quaint villages and the bigger Cities?

Lets begin at the Dover ferry terminal, this is where our journey began.

DAY 1..........

We eventually picked up our hire car, and were on our way, first stopping at Dover for fish and chips lunch, and then onto Dover Castle, Deal Castle and Walmer castle.

All of these Castle's are close together, different in many ways, with Walmer Castle having lovely gardens.

We then headed to Maidstone via the historic village of Chilham.
Maidstone was where we stayed for our 1st night in England at the Village Hotel and Leisure Club, a good choice!

DAY 2.....

We finished our Laundry, went back to the Hotel, packed our bags and were on our way to see the mighty Leeds Castle.

What a beautiful Castle Leeds is!

A short drive, and we are at another Castle, this one has a beautiful garden and I have seen it many times on TV.

The name is Sissinghurst Castle & gardens and I thoroughly enjoyed them, these would be a must see if you love Flower's!

Our next stop is at the town of Battle.

This is where the Battle of Hasting's was fought in 1066. An interesting historical stop.

Well, the end of another day, and we are staying at Hailsham.

DAY 3...........

Another good night!

We are on the road and going to Brighton to see the Brighton Pavillion.

First, we stop at the pretty Village of Lindfield and have a look.

At Brighton, we head to the Pavillion, which was outstanding!
I thoroughly enjoyed it, which is more than I did of Brighton Town.

We were too late to go and see Arundel Castle, so we carried onto Petersfield to stay at Langrish House for our next night's sleep!

DAY 4...

Wow! This morning we enjoyed a lovely "full English Breakfast" at Langrish House.
Tummy's full, we travel a short distance to the small village's of East & West Meon.

East Meon is particularly pretty as it has many thatched roofed Cottage's.

After I had a wonderful time in East Meon, our next stop is at Winchester another historic City with a fantastic Cathedral.

We continued on our way, stopping at Stonehenge before staying near
Bath

Bath is a historic town, where we walked where the Roman's once walked.

DAY 5...

And we are leaving Hinton Charterhouse early, and heading to the Cotswald's, stopping at Castle Combe first. Beautiful!

We continued on, stopping for some photo's and then at the town of Malmesbury to see the lovely Abbey.

Next stop in the Cotswald's is Bourton on the Water,
Lower Slaughter,
Broadway,
Chipping Campden,
and
Stratford Upon Avon where we decide to spend the night.

DAY 6....

We really liked Stratford Upon Avon and had a good look around here, before moving onto
Eversham

NOW WE ARE GOING TO WALES and to Chepstow to see the Castle Ruin's.

We are back in England again, this time doing the Black & White trail in Herefordshire

We stop at the Village's of Dilwyn,
Weobley and
Pembridge.

We then go to Ludlow to spend the night.

DAY 7...

Away early and stopping at
Shrewsbury.

I loved Shrewsbury, but we had to head across the border to Wales and
Chirk

Chirk Castle & Aqueduct were great, now we're moving onto Llangollen in Wales.

The Aqueduct was amazing!

Now were are heading out of Wales and back into England to visit Ironbridge and to stay overnight at Telford.

DAY 8...

Time to move onto Derbyshire, and make a stop at the town of
Matlock

We went to nearby to the fantastic Chatsworth House, before moving onto
York

After a wonderful time in York, it was time to move on, passing through Selby and to Thorpe on the Hill where we spend our next night.

DAY 9...

After enjoying an enormous breakfast, we head into Selby, then Lincoln where I find lots of interest.

After spending quite a bit of time here, I find another intersting town by the name of Newark On Trent.

Well, better keep moving as we have to go to Cambridge where we will spend the night.

DAY 10...

Heading to London, but first stopping at Saffron Walden for a look.

This concludes our driving holiday. We had a great time, only wish we had more time!
