MARKET SQUARE

The market square in Ottobeuren is where we parked our car. The walk to the Basilica and Abbey wasn't far from here, and then, after our walk, we were able to enjoy a drink at one of the Cafe's in the square.
What a nice spot, with lovely flowers to look at, and a really lovely, bright orange Rathaus. In the middle, was some kind of water canal.

BASILICA ORGANS

Ottobeuren Basilica and the Kaisersaal of the Abbey is where famous conductors have been perfoming before a captive audience every Saturday afternoon over ther last fifty years.

The Concert's are held between May and September.

The Basilca actually has three Organs, my favorite being the old organ, built by French organ-builder Karl Joseph Riepp (1710-1775). It is actually a double organ and is one of the most treasured historic organs in Europe.

It was the main organ for 200 years, until 1957 when a third organ was added.

OTTOBEUREN ABBEY BASILICA

Arriving in Ottobeuren, we decided to park the car in the town square and have a look at the huge Basilica overlooking the town square.

The Basilica, built between 1737 -1766, to me was an unusual shade of green, with pink/lavender columns. It is part of the Benedictine monastery which was founded in 764, and is recognized as one of the most ornate Baroque and Rococo buildings in world.
It lived up to this! It is stunning inside, one of the most beautiful Basilica's I have been inside.

A must see!
