The name "Rothenburg ob der Tauber" means "Red fortress above the Tauber". This is because the Town overlooks the Tauber River.
The name "Rothenburg", maybe comes from the German words Rot (Red) and Burg (burgh, medieval fortified town), referring to the red colour of the roofs of the houses which overlook the river.
In Medieval times, Rothenburg was at the crossroads of the two most important roads in the Holy Roman Empire of the German nation.
Back then, it was one of the eight largest German cities and the richest city in the German states.
Rothenburg has been used in the 1940 Walt Disney movie Pinocchio,
and was also the location for the Vulgarian village scenes in the 1968 family movie, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Today Rothenburg is at the intersection of the Romantic Road and the Castle Road and receives many Tourist's through-out the year.

This is in the plan for our May trip to Munich and area. We will spend one day here, and others along Romantic Rd. It sounds like you were there at evening hours mostly, and took in all the sites. Nice work, as always.

Oh loverly :-)) Maybe I should revisit, it is only a bit more than 1 hour away from me. I love the bubble teddy :-) And wonder is Käthe Wohlfarth things are made in Germany or elsewhere and sold more expensive than the one who produce get for.
