Evesham is a market town in the county of Worcestershire, England.

The name Evesham is derived from "Eofs ham" ("ham" in English place names meaning "homestead"). Eof (or Eoves) was a humble swineherd, who saw a vision of the Virgin Mary and reported his experience to Saint Egwin, third Bishop of Worcester.
Evesham lies within the Vale of Evesham, an area comprising the flood plain of the River Avon, which was once a major centre for market gardening.
The town centre is often flooded, the most severe was in 2007, when the floods were the most severe in recorded history.

The town was founded around an early 8th century abbey, which was once one of the largest in Europe. A thriving town grew up around the Abbey, and it was here on 4th August 1265 that Simon de Montfort, known as the father of the English Parliament, and his alliance of rebellious barons were defeated at the Battle of Evesham by the royal forces under Prince Edward (later Edward I).
The abbey was destroyed during the Dissolution of the Monasteries, with only Abbot Lichfield's Bell Tower remaining.

Too bad this lovely town gets flooded so often. Perhaps they built it in the wrong place?

I think a lot of these towns have done just that. I guess years ago they had to because of using boats as a form of transport.
