Our arrival time is 10am, but the Ship has arrived early, and we are able to disembark at 8am, great news for us, two more hours in Helsinki!
Eager to explore the city, we are some of the first to make our way to Helsinki.
If you are a cruise ship passenger, then I wouldn't buy the Helsinki card.
We did, as there were a lot of places we wanted to see, trouble is, Museums take time to look at, and we ran out of time.
The card is expensive, and we didn't get our value out of the card.
Not a real lot to see here, but enough to keep you busy for a full day in Port.
Helsinki, as you most probably know, is the capital of Finland.
Founded in 1550, the "Daughter of the Baltic" has been the Finnish capital since 1812, when it was rebuilt by the Tsars of Russia along the lines of a miniature St. Petersburg.
The best time to visit is in summer.
We are back on "Vision of the Seas" again, and now are heading to our third port of call, which is St. Petersburg in Russia.

Enjoyed your page Dee, but it made me think what did we see when we visited late Aug2010, night ferry from Stockholm , rememberChurch inthe Rock but that is all, we stayed overnight. Must check my photos. How was the cruise - no rough weather?

Thank you Dee for bringing back memory about this beautiful northern city. Its arhitecture is very Russian looking like. Unfortunately I missed Suomenlinna and the Rock Church. Hope to find them next time.

An interesting page bringing back great memories of the time, when I visited Helsinki quite often in summer, but only for the short time that our ship spent in port. I could not explore much more than a few streets, the large market and that church !
Love the flowers at Central Station and I would really enjoy the markets. they look very clean and colourful.
