"GENOA - THE CITY OF BEAUTIFUL CHURCHES" Top 5 Page for this destination Genoa by balhannah

Genoa Travel Guide: 740 reviews and 1,950 photos

Genoa is in the Province of Liguria

World Heritage.....

It is said to have the largest historic district, "old quarter" in Europe.

Walking around the narrow alley ways, I certainly would believe that.

Genoa is Genova in Italian!

Genoa was the site of EXPO 92 and a 2004 European Culture Capital

What's on......

REGATTA..... is held the first weekend in June every fourth year.

JAZZ FESTIVAL....In July

The statue "Christ of the Depths", underwater at the bay's entrance, is celebrated at the end of July with a Mass, the illumination of the reefs and a line of underwater torches to show the way to the statue.

Genoa I loved!

Too much to see.......

Too much of interest.......

Too little time......

Would love to return for another couple of days to see all that I missed!

We have returned to the Ship once again, looking forward to a nice Dinner, Dinner show, and a good sleep, before arriving at our next port which is MARSEILLE - FRANCE

Make sure you have a good sleep, as there is some walking to be done tomorrow!

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Beautiful buildings, architecture and sights!
  • Cons:Be careful in the alley ways!

From Genoa I know the airport, the autostrada around the town, some industry on the coast to the north, but never visited the city! Thanks for the tour.

Oh it seems that I must plan a visit to Genova one day! I love port scenes and this old port looks especially gorgeous. Plus the great buildings and marvellous chiese! And then there is the Monumental Cemetery of Staglieno, which I desperately want to visit.
Thanks for your tour, Dee :-)

Dee, comprehensive page with gorgeous photos of Genoa. Although I have been to Italy already quite a few times, I never really made it to Genoa, which definitely seems to be well worth a visit.

Whenever I think of Genoa I think of the beautiful opera Simon Boccanegra, by Giuseppe Verdi. The opera takes place in Genoa in the middle of the 14th century when Boccanegra was the Doge.

I have been through Genoa, but never stopped long enough for a proper visit. Now after reading your tips I think I will remedy that, especially since there is going to be a direct high-speed train connection, starting next year, between Frankfurt to Marseille, so I could go that way instead of by way of Milan.

I had never really thought of visiting Genoa but there seems to be so much to do here :-) I love St Luke's and Santa Maria delle Vigne especially - who wouldn't, indeed!! The streets of the old town look lovely too - just the sort of place I like to explore. And wow, all those wonderful coffees (the stronger the better, for me)!!

What a wealth of things to see! And so many churches! A little like Vilnius but there some of the temples are neglected. Excellent page that I would surely use if I were to visit that wonderful city.
