THE BLUE MOUNTAINS
The Blue Mountains were once considered an impassable barrier, quite easy to imagine when you see them, and understand that all those years ago, they didn't have the equipment to use like we have today!
Now, the Blue Mountains are a major gateway to Western New South Wales.
It is one of Australia's natural wonders, stretching for over one million hectares, and is well known around the World.
Rainforest, canyons, tall forests and heathlands, birds & animals, quaint villages, all types of accommodation levels, great views and walks, plenty to do on the cheap by bush walking, or spend some money and do some of the more adverturesome activities.
There are eight individual conservation reserves - Yengo, Wollemi, Gardens of Stone, Blue Mountains, Nattai, Kanangra Boyd, Thirlmere Lakes and Jenolan Caves Karst Reserve, making this a nature lover's paradise.
The dramatic sandstone cliffs and rugged canyons are an adventurer's paradise. It has one of Australia's best network of trails providing numerous bushwalking and mountain biking opportunities.
For people like my husband, that have walking difficulties, there are plenty of lookouts that provide some of Australia's best views within easy access and car parking facilities.
A visit in October, like we did on this occassion, was beautiful. The Rhododendrons & Azaleas were in full bloom, and the native flowers in the bush were just beautiful, so many different flowers I had not seen before!
It doesn't matter which time you visit, except maybe Winter (June, July, August) ...it gets cold!.....as the different seasons bring different sights, with Autumn being another very nice time to visit.
A MUST VISIT IF YOU ARE IN SYDNEY.......
Come in your own car, a Tour, or catch the Train, there is a reasonable
Hop/on/off tour bus that takes in all the major sights.
- Pros:Stunning beauty
- Cons:Certain areas can get very crowded with Tourists
- In a nutshell:Walk to see the best

The Zig Zag train looks fantastic and so does the skyway. The whole adventure looks so much fun! Excellent page Dee!
Thanks Dee! It's an area we keep returning to, so much to see and do!
Thank goodness someone is telling someone about the more popular sites in the Blue Mountains! Just realised how much I've been avoiding them. Cheers, Ian
That looks like a great destination ! The rock garden is stunning and I am amazed by the variety of landscapes.
Oh, wow, Dee, what a beautiful place and so many beautiful flowers. I love botanic gardens and seek them out where ever I go, so I especially loved your tips :D And a very good idea to have a photo of your name and info on the memory card, will do that :D
Dee. you took some great pictures. I had never heard of the blue mountains and the scenery (and especially the variety of scenery) looks absolutely stunning. I absolutely love those tourist trains in places like that, just unforgettable. Took a bit, but I was wondering what places look like that in October,,,,then i remembered your seasons are reversed:) wonderful set of pages
Brilliant page on the Blue Mountains. The first visit I recall was aged 7 during the May school holidays (1952). It snowed and my fingers froze in the snow. Most recent visit, 2000.
Fascinating Blue Mountains National Park travel page with stunning photographs. Your page certainly brings back fond memories of our trip to the Blue Mountains several months ago. The park is certainly a "must-visit" tourist destination! ~ho & pang
Right, I've finished one page of Must Sees but have to g now, will continue later. As always, your photos are superb and your tips tell it all. A "mine of information".
I do love gardens waterfalls & wildflowers :) seems like the perfect place for me!!
Your Blue Mountains National Park sounds absolutely wonderful. Thanks for sharing that. I did some rating for you. Blessings.
