The name "Buderim" derived from the local Kabi Kabi Aboriginal word for Banksia spinulosa var. collina, which grew wild in the sandy country around the plateau

I have grown this Banksia, but didn't realize this was where it came from.

Buderim is a busy town that has outgrown itself. The roads are too narrow, lack of parking for shopping and horrendous traffic, not a place I wish to visit anymore.

Buderim still has tree lined streets and nice gardens, nice to still see!

Buderim was well known for its Ginger, being at one time the centre of the
largest Ginger Factory in the southern hemisphere.

Well . . . the factory is now 20minutes away at YANDINA.
Really, a must visit,

It has is a major theme park and tourist attraction. If you come to the
Coast look for the signposts to show you the way.

Now the Ginger factory has long gone.................

Try and drive down the Mountain for views over the Sunshine coast and do stop at the heritage Pioneer Cottage to see the old memorabilia. It has been restored and cared for by the Buderim Historical Society and is worth a look

Very interesting page and some great photos to go along with it! I love exploring older towns and places to see how people lived in those times. Though it might not be as small a town as it once was, it seems very appealing as seen through your eyes!

Hi Dee. I have to say I love seeing your pages and all the great out of the way things you discover. Buderim surely sounds like one of them! Especially loved the tip about the Coolgardie Safe! Definitely agree on the sadness of seeing a small town change into a place that has supermarkets and large parking lots. somehow being named a historic preservation area often isnt enough.

Yet another beautiful and historic place you have written about, but too bad that the quiet nature of the town has changed.
