Early Years

The first 11 years of my life were spent in a very small town (population 100) in Arkansas. The summer before I turned 12, my father moved the family to Nome, Alaska. Since there are no roads to Nome, we had to fly everywhere and we did. It was a wonderful experience for my family. Unfortunately, after three years, my father passed away suddenly and my mom, faced with raising three children alone, moved us back to Arkansas to be closer to family.

The time spent in Alaska lead to my desire to travel.

Europe at 15

The summer after my fathers death, I convinced my mother that I should be allowed to take a trip to Europe with my high school. Even though I technically wasn't old enough the teachers thought I was mature enough and I set off on my next big adventure.

Army Time

After graduating from college and spending a year and a half in grad school I decided it was time for something completely different. So, I enlisted in the Army Reserve. I spent a year and a half on active duty, mostly at Fort Devens, MA.

One of the proudest days of my life was marching across the parade field on graduation day. I was even prouder of that accomplishment than receiving a BS in Physics. It's really wonderful to prove people wrong, and everyone except my mom, sister, brother, and one aunt had told me I was making a big mistake. It was a wonderful experience and I will always be greatfull for all the lessons learned, both good and bad. GO ARMY!

Living my Dream

I have dreamed about working at NASA my entire life. I've been telling people I was going to work there since before I can remember. Well, I actually do work there and have since June 1992! I am actually living my dream. How many people can say that?
