Apple Festival

Hendersonville, NC is located near the foothills of the Smokey Mountains. It's a thrill as you leave the South Carolina border and enter North Carolina and drive upward toward the mountains. This mountain area is lush and green even in the summer.
The festival consists of local apple growers from the surrounding area. You can indulge in apple ice cream, fried pies, candied apples while strolling the town and listening to a variety of bands. There were many vendors there selling everything from pottery, food, rides for the children, tie dyed clothes, etc. I especially enjoyed the shopping because of the unique stores and merchandise.
Hendersonville is the largest apple growing county in North Carolina.

North Carolina Waterfalls

North Carolina has an abundance of waterfalls and we only able to hike a few of them in such a short time. The area we stayed was bordering the Dupont State Forest. In this area we hiked to Hooker Falls, Triple Falls & High Falls which are all 15 miles outside of Hendersonville and 11 miles from Brevard. The hike was moderate and the scenery was georgeous. There were all kinds of people with children, dogs and horses.

McCrary Cabins

There were 4 small cabins along the mountain side. Each had 1 bedroom, living & kitchen combo with a small loft and a deck. We ate snacks that evening, drank Margaritas & played music. The temperate dropped to 50F which was cool but we were prepared. It's a nice quite area right off of Staton Road which is a main road. The owner, Perry McCrary was friendly and courteous. We didn't have to check out until late that Sunday evening so we went back to Hendersonville to eat and shop a little more before we headed home.
