Stroll through Chinatown and shop for silk and other fabrics in Pahurat, the indian district. Chinatown is what chinatown should be: chinese markets, restaurants and gold shops. In a corner of Chinatown you can find Pahurat. This is a wonderful place to shop for thai-silk and other fabrics. The first time i visited me and my friend (which have good knowledge about qualities) bought more than 60 m. of fabrics while visiting Bangkok! Most of it I haven't gotten around to use of course, but whenever I need a neew evening gown or silk pillows I sure have a lot of colors to choos from ;o)

Take a daytrip to Ayutthaya, the old capital north of Bangkok. Ayutthaya remained the Thai capital for 417 years and was reigned by 33 kings of five Siamese dynasties until it was conquered by the Burmese. The defeated capital was left in the jungle for over a hundred years when it was rediscovered. Magnificient ruins of principal temples and palaces of the old capital still remain to give a clue to the city's former glory. We booked the tour at one of the small travel agencies in Khao San Road.We had a wonderful guide, who also teached at the local university, ahd that really made the tour worth it!

The Grand Palace, the royal palace and it's gardens and temples. This ia a crazy firework of colorful buildings decorated with shiny pieces of glass and gold covered roofs. You have to wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from the gleaming and glittering facades. You really have to experience this! The Grand Place is the home of the famous Emerald Buddah, which inspite of it's name is made of jade. Be aware that the dresscode is very strict. No short skirts, bare shoulders or open sandals. They equip you with some ugly clothing if you don't meet the dresscode requirements.

Wat Pho, the biggest buddhist temple in Bangkok This relaxing temple area also contains a famous massage school where you can get, or learn, traditional thai massage. Look for the beautiful marble motifs lining the outside walls of the main temple. Ricepaper prints of these traditional pictures can be bought all over the city. At most temples you can find these facinating stone warriors guarding the entrances. At Wat Pho they are exeptionally big and I really wished I could bring one back home!
