i won the flight so just had to find cheap hotel. i bookend rotanna hotel in indian sector. clean and safe in harbour area. i travelled alone, in ramadan. not a good idea! no places i could go on my own. ate in a lot. used the public beach which costs about £2. go by taxi everywhere. too hot to walk. went to baj al arab the biggest hotel for afternoon tea. a dream come true! cost about£35 but book in advance and u will get fax which u have to take with you. the old gold souk in old town is something else! amust see even if you dont buy. also the spice soul which isnt far from gold souk. i did find an african club next to my hotel where i was made welcome and was safe

where is my prince???

i booked this trip for my birthday (56) so im no youngster but my son was proud of me tackling this!! i did not believe we would go the places that jeep went! i took so many photos of my feet---i gave up! then we had bedoin feast and alas no bellydancing (ramadan) camel riding or quad bikes, then another hair raising drive back to hotel. well worth the money. cant recall how much but im a canny scot so cant have been too much

tea for one

ive watched this hotel on travel channel so often, i never thought id ever see it for real. i booked from my hotel. they sent a fax of confirmation to my hotel which you have to take with you or you dont cross the cause way to this magnificent baj al arab. the view was magical. the food divine. i was treated like a princess ( old queen maybe) money well spent. £35 plus a tip look out for the fish tank which i almost missed!!

• Cons:5 days is enough if you on your own unless u rich!!!
• In a nutshell:been there done that! where next?
