I passed through Rotterdam twice on the same day, each time by train. Once was in the morning while the other was at night. I was amazed at how it has such tall buildings, and yet the country is so flat.
While passing through at night I could see people in their homes beside the railway, most were probably watching television, others would be using their computers - maybe on the internet, maybe even on VT. Other people would be eating their dinner or reading a book or telling their friends or family about the day they had.
It makes you wonder about all the people you pass in a day, who they are, where they have come from and where they are going. What sort of day have they had, what are they thinking when they walk past, or even as they look up while sitting on a train and notice someone in a red jacket looking out of the winndow on a train from Vlissengen to Amsterdam CS on March 18th 2001.
Something I was thinking about the other day, during my train trip I was talking to this young woman on the train who had been sleeping rough - I really felt sorry for her as she appeared to be such a nice person. She claimed to come from the USA, although whether she really did - who can tell. She got off at Schipoll and I wished her all the best and to look after herself. Yet the really sad thing is - I did not ask her what her name was :-(
Well whoever you were I hope you are safe.
